Electric power system comprises components and systems like Generators, transformers, transmission lines and distribution networks, each of which is liable to be affected by insulation failure, due to over voltage or over load. They may also fail under normal service conditions owing to aging or poor quality of material or of manufacturing process. The conductors comprising the transmission and distribution network are also exposed to the elements like lightning, rain, wind, snow etc. which can cause short circuit faults or otherwise damage supporting structures. Insulation failure due to any of these causes lead to trip outs and other disturbances which at times be severe enough to culminate in wide spread power outages or black outs.
This paper covers the aspects of the high speed conveyor system as applicable to the Indian Industry. Generally the belt conveyors in the Indian Industries are low speed type with belt speeds in the range of 2 to 3 mps. There are few installations with speeds up to 4.5 mps. Most of the conveyors existing in India are short distance conveyors with length up to 1 km.
The Indian economy is growing in recent times at an average rate of 8.5% and a growth rate of about 8 to10 % is being forecast for the coming years, against a growth rate of about 5 to7% in the past years. To sustain the economic growth on continuous basis, reliable supply of electricity and availability of infrastructure shall be made available which are the key contributors. To augment the power demand, large capacity power generating units are being installed.
Two major types of wagon loading systems are (a) Rake will be stationary and loader will be moving (b) Rake will be moving and loader will be stationary.
This paper presents the aspects of the coal stockpiles currently in vogue in the Indian Power plants and the suggested improvements. About 65% of the power generation in India is by coal based power plants. These coal based power plants are spread all over India viz. near the pit head, near the ports and in the interiors far away from the mines and ports. Most of the power plants have coal stockpile of capacities ranging from 7 days to 45 days requirement of the power plant.
Within the past three decades, fluidised bed combustion (FBC) technologies have emerged as a commercially viable alternative, and becoming a technology of choice in many situations. These technologies have been applied to all solid fuels including biofuels, peat, lignite, coal, anthracite culm, coal washery wastes, petroleum coke, oil shale, municipal waste based fuels and an array of hazardous wastes. Many have been designed to co-combust several dissimilar solid fuels and wastes simultaneously.
