TCE was designated as the Architect’s Engineer for the development of the 2 x 210 MW Thermal power plants, Units 3 & 4 Stage-II, at Mettur (MTPS) by the Tamilnadu Electricity Board (TNEB, now known as TANGEDCO). Our commitment to these projects encompassed the entire spectrum, from the initial conceptualisation to the ultimate commissioning, providing indispensable support to TNEB. The project was meticulously executed through an individual package route, and TCE conducted exhaustively detailed engineering, offering vital procurement assistance.

MTPS Units 3 and 4, commissioned in 1989 and 1990, respectively, mark a significant milestone as the first Inland Power Plant in TANGEDCO. Sporting a Chimney soaring to a height of 220m, these units have been operational for over 30 years. MTPS achieved a commendable feat by securing the first position in TANGEDCO for maintaining an Annual PLF of 90% for nearly six consecutive years.

In 2005, MTPS was honoured with the second prize from the Ministry of Power, the Department of Science & Technology, and the Ministry of Environment for its effective fly ash utilisation practices. Notably, Unit-3 set a unique record in TANGEDCO’s history by operating continuously for 337 days, showcasing the operational excellence achieved through TCE’s contribution.
