UPSEB made a strategic decision to transition to higher unit sizes of 200/210MW from the existing 110/120MW units in the country. For the pioneering Obra thermal power plant, comprising 5x200MW Units 9 to 13, UPSEB enlisted the expertise of TCE for detailed engineering, construction management, supervision, and commissioning services.

Unit 11 took the lead in 1978 as the inaugural 200 MW plant in the country, marking a significant milestone. Following suit, Units 10, 9, 12, and 13 were commissioned between 1979 and 1982. Notably, Unit-11 holds the distinction of being the first of its kind in the nation.

TCE played a pioneering role as the first Indian consultant to engineer the largest number of 200 MW units at Obra, Uttar Pradesh. Additionally, TCE was entrusted with the design and implementation of Data Acquisition for these units, showcasing their comprehensive involvement in the project.

TCE’s contribution extended to being the first to engineer a 400 kV Switchyard in India for UPSEB at Obra, further solidifying their position as trailblazers in the field. Remarkably, these units continue to operate efficiently even after more than 40 years, attesting to the enduring quality of the engineering and construction undertaken by TCE.
