TCE assumed the role of architect’s engineer for the development of Tuticorin Thermal Power Plants, consisting of 5 x 210 MW units commissioned by the Tamil Nadu Electricity Board. TCE’s engagement extended from initial conceptualisation to final commissioning, providing indispensable support to TNEB.

The execution followed an individual package route, and TCE performed comprehensive detailed engineering, offering vital procurement assistance. The project unfolded in three phases, with the initial commissioning of the first three units by 1982. Subsequently, Units 4 and 5 were commissioned in 1992.

Situated along the coast, these plants feature a sea water based cooling water system, a seaborne coal handling system, a captive jetty for coal unloading, and operate as 100% coal and oil fired units. Additionally, an Indoor switchyard enhances operational efficiency in this coastal setting.
